ABX parent wins business from Qantas, DHL - Business First of Louisville:
Wilmington-based Inc. (NASDAQ:ATSG) said that ABX under a new agreemen t will run charter service six days a weekbetween Belgium, and Lagos, Nigeria, for DHL affiliate Europeajn Air Transport NV/SA. The agreement initiall y calls for service to run through September. As part of the DHL agreement, ABX and a newlgy formed Air Transport subsidiary, Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services, will maintain the aircraft in Brusselsand Lagos. Air Transporgt also said it signeda two-yearf agreement with Freight, a subsidiary of Australian carrieer Qantas Airways Ltd.
The deal callsd for its Air Transport International subsidiary to run overnight service between Australia and New Zealand evert Monday through Thursday beginningJune 15. Air Transport said the companyg will useBoeing 767-200-SF which also will be available for charterd service and weekend rotations. The new contracts come amid an ongoingv effort from Air Transport to diversify its revenue stream afterr losing thousands of jobsas DHL, its primar y customer, has made drastic changee to its U.S. operations. Those moves include haltint domestic point-to-point shipping and planning to shiftr cargo operations tothe Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airporrt from the Wilmington Air Park.
